Truth
I’ve started to notice something…
We live in a world full of “relative truth”
Relative truth is the idea that truth is not absolute or universal, but instead depends on the person, culture, situation, or perspective. (My truth. Your truth. What feels right. What makes sense to me.) It can easily be redefined according to how we feel, what we experience, or what’s convenient in the moment.
And when everything can change…In a world of relative truths…
we start to loose sight of what is the absolute truth. Day after day, it becomes harder for us to find common ground to stand on.
But there’s something even more unsettling…
If truth is only personal, then it’s not just flexible — it becomes vulnerable. Because at that point, truth doesn’t just change with us…it can be changed for us.
Ideas can be shaped. Reality can be distorted. And things that aren’t true can slowly start to feel normal.
Scripture warns—that’s exactly where deception begins.
- Genesis 3:1–5 (The serpent doesn’t deny God outright—he questions and reframes truth) “Did God really say…?” and “You will not surely die…”
- 2 Corinthians 4:4 – The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. (Recommended Context – read 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 – only one paragraph – you can do it!)
- Interesting point – “The god of this age” does not mean Satan is equal to God. He has temporary influence over the world’s systems, thinking, and values. He is an Influencer. Sound familiar? Know of any online influencers?
But what if truth isn’t something we create?
What if it’s something we’re meant to discover?
Something unchanging — Something that doesn’t move — Something more like a rock, or a cornerstone to lean on. Solid ground for us to stand on.
- Isaiah 28:16 – So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic. (Recommended Context – read all of Isaiah 28 – only a few paragraphs – you can do it!)
- Psalm 18:2 – The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.1 Peter 2:4–8 – Peter directly identifies Jesus as the chosen cornerstone, precious to believers but rejected by others.
Jesus didn’t just teach truth.
He says, “I am the truth.”
- John 14:6-7 – Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.
- John 1:17 – For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
- John 8:31–32 – …If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Not just a perspective. Not just a guide.
Not just a label. Not just a lifestyle.
But a foundational truth for us to stand on.
And I’m starting to realize…
Maybe real freedom isn’t found in defining truth for ourselves
— but in finding it in Him.
